This project will produce total-immersion virtual-reality reconstructions of the liturgy in the late 15th C Vadstena Abbey, specifically the multisensory experiences in the church. We will use the existing architecture and extant furnishings, archeological evidence and written sources. First musicologists will locate and select the liturgy. Virtual-reality engineers will build a “wire frame.” Acoustic engineers will develop the algorithms for the calculations for changing auralities in space and time. Art historians will assemble data about the building and furnishings. Then the chants will be recorded, and the various sensibilities will be integrated.
